Wild Times at You Know Where

Tuesday 27th March - DJ Chelsea Jade
Photographer, tap-dancer, blogger and musician extraordinaire - Chelsea Jade truly is the mistress of many trades, and the Jack (Jill?) of many more. So, it makes sense that the Teacups / Watercolours front-babe would want to try her hand at DJing. We've got no idea what she's going to play, so I've got nothing more to say here. Probably just R Kelly's "Trapped In the Closet" in its entirety. Sweet!
7pm - late / Free entry

Wednesday 28th March - Darth Muzai VS Cat Venom DJs
After enjoying themselves thoroughly last time, the good people at Muzai Records - joined by the deviant duo that is Cat Venom - are back and ready to create some more aural mischief. Darth Muzai has promised "a mixture of some hip hop, Brit pop, and other things that rhyme with hop and pop", while Cat Venom will no doubt be exacting revenge with their self-stated mantra "Take something, fuck it up, deliver it without caring who cares". Reeeow.
7pm - late / Free entry

Thursday 29th March - Yam Jams DJs
Hey, it must be that time again! Mr Elbo, Mr Tankard, and Mr St.Clair are synchronising their Swatches, wiping down their favourite LPs, and shining their shoes for yet another installment of the musical soap opera that is YAM JAMS! The finest blended roast of funky, jazzy, soulful, rock'n'roll'ful good times one can hope to hear - that's what Yam Jams are all about. Uh huh.
8pm - late / Free entry

Friday 30th March - TV Disko
Monsieur TV DiSKO brings his vinyl fetishes north to Auckland, for a night of musical mischief, cobbled together from all corners of the globe. Turkish, Bollywood, Gallic, Deutsche, Hungarian tunes, genres spanning minimal wave, disco, psych, prog and bucket loads of aural goodness.

Saturday 31st March - Ping Pong Country!
An early evening devoted to The Art of Ping Pong Country, hosted by the one and only TV DiSKO. Hillbilly boogie, Western swing, a little honky tonk to keep you hopping along while you get some sweet ol'timey exercise. Like nothing you've ever experienced before, this is the first time in Auckland. Get in early, as we're not going late.

She’s So Rad with James Duncan (live)
You better hope you're wearing good shoes this Saturday night, cause you're going to be gazing at them all night - with the shoegaze pairing of a lifetime! She's So Rad - aka Jeremy Toy and Anji Sami - will be joined with Mr James Duncan (fresh from having released his new single "Mickey") for an ambient-rocking evening to remember.

Proton Beast DJs will be in the house too, ready to smear hot bad-ass aural butter all over your eardrums. Roar!

8pm - late / $5 entry

Sunday 1st April - Fools Gold
Join those merry pranksters DJs Tommy Flowers, Marie Celeste and Cian as they play some cracking April Fools tricks on your ears --- in a good way. The combined powers of this eccentric trio guarantee it'll be a Sunday spent guessing what the frick you'll hear next - be it a tasty little jazz morsel, a Smiths anthem, a little bit of party-pop, a rocksteady rocker, or you know... anything!

Let's Have A Pretty Good Time Together..

Tuesday 20th March - DJ Dave Taylor & His Only Friends
Don't feel sorry for Dave - he's happy with his lot in life. He's got a beautiful family, an enjoyable job, and a formidable record collection. Sure, he's only got two friends in this world, but they're bloody good guys, and they've also got great records in their bedrooms.

Hey Dave, bring your friends, bring your records, and let's have a pretty good time together at The Tavern of Power. Psychedelic punk country rock'n'roll for a rainy evening.
7pm - late / FREE

Wednesday 21st March - DJs Henrietta & Adele
When they're not busily ferreting around in abandoned fun parks for the bones of lost children, Henrietta and Adele are down at the dump, rifling around for the unloved vinyl collections of the elderly, or people moving overseas who can't be bothered storing their records.

You'd be amazed what they've found... and they're coming to have a lot of fun with us this Wednesday, with their ever growing collection towed behind them in matching little red wagons. They'll probably also download some of the "latest tunes" from the internet and play those too. EXCITING.
7pm - late / FREE

Thursday 22nd March - Uni & Her Ukelele (USA)

America's favourite UKE-STAR is returning to New Zealand once again to sprinkle her glittery magic all about the place. Lucky us, she's stopping in at the Golden Dawn this Thursday to brighten the corners for a while!

Uni will be joined by the delight DJs Steve Newall - normally found stirring our pot on a Friday evening, Steve's going all "Thursday night" on us for a change - and King G making his soul-funking Golden Dawn debut! Be there or be a hornless horse.
8pm - close / $5 entry

Friday 23rd March - DJs John Baker & Alan Perrott
Not satisfied with ordinary volume cliches, John Baker will be turning it up to TWELVE on the dial this Friday, cranking out the dirtiest, greasiest, seamiest rock'n'roll, soul, psych, and easy listening jazz your feeble little ears can handle.

Playing the Sapphire to Baker's Steel will be writer, dreamer, and record buff Mr Alan Perrott! The twosome have four hands between them, that's a LOT of vinyl that can be carried. Raw power.
7pm - 2am / FREE

Saturday 24th March - Voom & Lawnmaster (LIVE)

A live performance from Voom is as rare and as vital to the true-blue running of our nation as a jar of Marmite. Imagine my joyful surprise when Nick - Voom's clever-fingers guitarist - asked if they could put on a bit of a last minute show here. I said yes, of course. Don't miss this - Voom won't be playing together again for bloody ages.

Also braving the stage will be Wellingtons roguish pop upstarts Lawnmaster, featuring Mr Ken Double and his band of mostly merry men...

Turning the tables before, betwixt and afterwards will be our good friends and expert DJs Darryn Harkness & Phil Kelly!
8pm - late / $5 entry

Sunday 25th March - DJ Daddy O

We love DJ Daddy-O, we love him very much...

Hey, You Like This?

Tuesday 13th March - DJ Ad-One
Probably best known currently for providing the soundtrack to your breakfast on soul-funk-jazzing radio station Kfm, Ad-One is sneaking in a Tuesday evening at the Golden Dawn this week just for kicks. Expect a nice little mixture of "downbeat, soul, hip-hop, dub and a little bit of everything else worth playing…"... Nice.
7pm - late / FREE

Wednesday 14th March - Real Estate DJ Set (USA)
Hey look, THESE GUYS are DJing on Wednesday!

Thursday 15th March - DJs Custard Square & House and Garden

Friday 16th March - DJs Tina Turntables & Mr Crawley
So, this is my fault, and I'm sorry. It's been *way* too long since we had Tina Turntables DJ at the bar, right? But fear not! The Sultaness of Sassy Soul is back in full effect this Friday! Joining forces with her somewhat unreliable but with-the-best-intentions co-host from 95bFM's Back on the Good Foot show, get ready for six hours of high energy soul, rock'n'roll, rhythm&blues, garage, psych, boogaloo and a whole lot of silliness. Dress up to get down, etc...
8pm - 2am / FREE

Saturday 17th March - Spoilers of Utopia (live)
By far the most people we've ever attempted to fit on the stage at The Golden Dawn, The Spoilers of Utopia are comprised of John Bell (arranger, tenor horn, vibraphone), Ben Zilber (trombone), Kingsley Melhuish (trumpet/trombone), Owen Melhuish (Tuba), Don McGlashan (Euphonium), Chris O’Connor (drumset), Jeff Henderson (Drums/ Saxhorns) and Darren Hannah (bass).

Formed in August 2011, the Spoilers are the most apocalyptic brass band in the universe at present. They have been presenting the music of American jazz composer Albert Ayler, kiwi composers (McGlashan, Bell and Melhuish) as well as hymns, anthems, and exalted, exuberant bugle-fired marches forged in brimstone.

Joining this wild outfit will be two fine men in wild outfits of their own... our old favourites DJs Jon Bywater & Sam Hamilton!
8pm - close / $5 entry

Sunday 18th March - DJ A.D.A.M.
After being discovered by the ringmaster at his circus for "liberating some enslaved clown midgets", A.D.A.M. has been on the run for the best part of a decade. Over the years, with the help of an enchanted sweatband, and a mysterious figure enshrouded in mist, A.D.A.M. has been learning the ways of the DJ, in order to rise to fame, and escape the treachery of the foul-mouthed ringmaster who tails him to this day. This Sunday, come and protect him at the DJ booth by surrounding him as he plays a wondrous selection of tunes for our ears. Everyone wins.
