April 27 – a date famous in Celtic and pagan folklore for the Invocation of the Cludagh – the fertility bringing eel of mythical Laellcrwn – when local children would don suits made of the skins of otters and other eel-like mammals and parade through the neighbourhood performing feverish, eerie incantations.
Mike Fabulous and Lawrence Arabia, two performers of Irish descent, will celebrate this notorious date at The Golden Dawn, Tavern of Power this Friday with a barnstorming performance of that most peculiarly Celtic genre of music – funk.
Performing songs from their 2011 album "Unlimited Buffet," this is a rare show from this band of Celtic Funk heavyweights, featuring Riki Gooch, Toby Laing, Tom Watson, and Hayden East, plus the eponymous Mike Fabulous and Lawrence Arabia.
$5 on the door from 8pm. Performance at 10pm. Come early to avoid queues, disappointment and/or the fearful unsheathing of the Braehlaegh.
