Seriously, Who Let The Dogs Out? Wed 1st - Sun 5th June

Wednesday 1st June
DJ Andrew Trouble (Cheese on Toast)
He's the jockey with the mostest - Andrew "Cheese on Toast" Trouble! Expect indie-fied anthems, brewed gently with some rock'n'roll, soul and dancefloor-friendly tunes galore. Ever fallen in love with someone you shouldn't have fallen in love with? Doesn't matter, fall in love with the tunes spun by Senor Trouble!

Thursday 2nd June - GOLD COIN ENTRY
LIVE:
Heart Attack Alley
Hey guys, you know how you've been waiting super patiently for your favourite raw blues trio to return to the Golden Dawn: Tavern of Power to blow you away, again? Good news. If you find yourself in the area this Thursday - well, you best fish out a gold coin and throw it in our fountain for this super fine experience. Check them out ->HERE<-

plus: DJ Murry Sweetpants
Last time Mr Sweetpants took to the Decks Of The Dawn, everyone had the nicest time ever. Put simply, he's a gentleman and a scholar when it comes to "tunes", and if you're needing a bit pep in your step, he's your cat.
8pm - close

Friday 3rd June
DJ Cat In The Hat
I remember it well... that rainy Tuesday night. I was wearing a long blue wig, and in dire need of seven cocktails in a row. The Golden Dawn was my place of respite, and the Cat In The Hat (Yes, THE Cat In The Hat) was spinning tune after vinyl-icious tune to not only soothe my soul, but to wrestle it out of its glum state and out onto the dance floor. True story. The Cat In The Hat Comes Back!
8pm - 11pm

DJ Bobby Johnson
Remember the theme song to Danger Mouse? "He's the greatest / He's fantastic / Wherever there's danger he'll be there / He's the ace / He's amazing / He's the strongest he's the quickest he's the best / Danger Mouse / Danger Mouse / DANGER MOUSE"... Well, swap out "Danger Mouse" for "Bobby Johnson", and you get the idea. Cool times.
11pm - 2am

Saturday 4th June - $5 ENTRY
LIVE: Mulholland (album release show) with Andrew Keoghan
Having produced every great album in recent history, toured the world alongside Liam Finn, fronted his own bands The Mots and Gasoline Cowboy, it's finally time for Jol Mulholland to shine out on his own. Join us in song as Jol releases his fucking excellent new album this Saturday. Check his sound out ->HERE<-

plus DJ James Milne
By day he's only one of our nation's most celebrated young songwriters... Yeah, sure you've toured the globe with your band "Lawrence Arabia", been the subject of rave reviews from some of Earth's greatest media outlets... but you know... that don't impress me much. I prefer it when your name is James and you play Kinks records at my bar.
8pm - 11pm

DJ Mr Crawley
Yeah, yeah. Back again.

Goldenaxe DJ Sound System

LIVE: Eden Bradfield & The Brides (Oamaru)

Oamaru's best kept secret - Eden Bradfield - attacks the stage with violin in hand, plus a guitar wielding chum in tow... never too gentle, never too harsh - but certainly not middle of the fucking road... You'll see.

DJ Hayden East kicks the night off with some soul first, though, and Goldenaxe hit the wheels of lazer-steel hard with their mighty tunez after until we close. Rad.

Sunday 29th May
DJ Nigel Love spins songs for Sunday. Sublime.

May 16, 2011

The Golden Dawn Again (May 18 - 22)

Wednesday 18th May
DJs Josh-On-Decks
More hot jazz than you can shake a well crafted walking cane at, more New Orleans funk than you can waggle a voodoo "thing" at, and more rock'n'roll than you can shake your own bits at - Josh-on-Decks is one of the finest selectors in our line-up. Enjoy.

Thursday 19th May
LIVE: Simon Comber (gold coin donation)
Singer/songwriter Simon Comber is about to head to the grand old United States on a tour that will change his life forever, but before he does that... he's appearing live at the Golden Dawn on our brand new stage! Take a listen to Simon's new music here, and realise for yourself why you're coming along this Thursday: http://simoncomber.bandcamp.com/album/the-right-to-talk-to-strangers

Todd was one the first disc jockeys to unleash the true potential of the Tavern of Power's aura. His carefully considered selections include everything from old time jazz to circus anthems to volcanic exotica... A night with Todd in town is a night to remember.

Friday 20th May
DJ Murray Cammick (early set)
The Viceroy of Vinyl, Mr Cammick is set to spin a cocktail of soul/funk, plus a healthy swag of mod, moog and rare groove - including old Canadian disco and new Australian funk! Always a pleasure, never a bore.

DJ Skinny (late set)
Before INDIE came along and ruined everything, there was DJ Skinny. A rock'n'roll purist with a heart of molten tar mixed with whiskey and blood, Skinny has tended to the Auckland scene with a care and thanklessness that usually only zookeepers and solo parents can boast. It's exciting for us to have him sharing his rock'n'roll goo this Friday at our very own den of iniquity!

Saturday 21st May
LIVE: Doug Jerebine (live sitar set) 9pm

plus
also appearing... DJ Uncle Barnie (early set)
Having trawled the markets of Ghana (actually), and travelled high and low searching for the greatest tunes in The Universe, Uncle Barnie is set to cast a mystical spell of wonder on you all with his vinyl decision making. Myth or man, it matters not - this Saturday's gonna be fun.

DJ Johnny “Poisoned Flour” Baker (late set)
When Johnny Baker is allowed to play whatever the heck he likes from his spectacular record collection at the Golden Dawn: Tavern of Power (whilst Supervixens is projected in the background) ... all hell breaks loose!

Sunday 22nd May
DJ Mr Adam
Ah, Mr Adam - it's been a while. Come make our Sundays in fundays? Music to eat delicious soup to, music to shake a tail feather, music, music, music.

xx
